PlayStation 4 Rumors, Drive-Ins, Wang Shots, Ennui

11:49 AM me: sup
 Marty: Werd
me: up on your PS4 rumors today?
11:50 AM Marty: Yup...actually just finishing an article on it!
  Wait...no
I'm doing one on the new Xbox
what did you hear about PS4?
 Marty: nice! thanks
11:52 AM me: sure thing
Marty: I gotta get on that feature
  How was your weekend?
11:53 AM me: We had a huge open house on Saturday so I had to be here all day. It was nuts
yesterday was a bunch of sitting around and playing Metroid
  which was not nuts
  you?
Marty: At your work? Or your apartment?
11:54 AM me: work
  2000+ people showed up
  it was chaos
Marty: Wowsers...is that more than normal?
 me: oh yeah
this is our second year of doing this, and it was a lot bigger and better-run than last year
11:55 AM people in suits are pleased
  you do anything good?
11:56 AM Marty: Good to hear! Looks good on you too, probably
Just played some games with a couple couples on friday, and went to the drive-in saturday for 21 Jump Street
11:57 AM me: did you sneak people in the trunk?
did you get to first base with the girl?
11:58 AM did you spit-take into your wind shield during a particularly funny moment?
  all of these questions!
 Marty: Damn,,..none of the above
we ate shit loads of candy and talked through a lot of the movie
11:59 AM me: stil sound like fun to me
12:01 PM Marty: Oh it is....this is the first drive-in we've done in our new city. We love it. Plus the place has a retro arcade
 me: whoa awesome
take pictures of that for posterity
  or however you spell it
12:02 PM Marty: Well...retro as in "mid-90s shooters"
 me: good enough
12:03 PM anything that stands up and has working buttons and sticks should be dusted and cataloged at this point
 Marty: No kidding
12:04 PM They are relics of a bygone era, which cost about 10X more coins to play if you happen to find them
12:05 PM me: which sucks
you can occasionally find a stand-up or two at large movie theaters here, but it's typically a light gun game and a claw
  which is FOR POOP
12:06 PM Marty: For major POOP. I was on a cruise last year and I think they had a lethal enforcer for the equivalent of 2$ play
  Did US have Playdiums?
 me: doesn't ring a bell
  was that an arcade chain?
12:07 PM Marty: It was Sega's arcade chain...massive, multi-levelled arcades with bars, restaurants, and a warehouse of games
me: oh that does sound familiar
Marty: It was a kid's shangra-la...and pretty much as expensive as the real thing
  assuming it's real
me: yeah i think we had them, just not anywhere near the young me
 Marty: too bad
  those things were amazing
12:08 PM me: far cry from the mess that sega has become
Marty: Is it a mess? I never know anymore. Like, I never know when a company is actually in trouble, or just saying it is to justify cancelling games and firing staff
  like any business, I suppose
12:12 PM me: sure
but sega just did a huge round of layoffs and project cuts
  not looking too good
12:13 PM Marty: Right...that's what I was referencing...I know they are downgrading their revenues, but I just feel like they're overplaying their company's state in an effort to cancel games they weren't hot on
me: oh that could be true
  never thought of that
12:14 PM Marty: It's a more jaded way of looking at it
 me: not really
it probably makes more sense for them to sanbag
12:15 PM at this point, they're kind of a laughing stock anyway, so if they can divert attention away from projects that would probably tank to something that can make them money, then i hope it works out
Marty: Well Sega also said it is focusing on digital content, so expect re-releases on PSN/XBLA every day now
12:16 PM PS...I'm quitting ___ this week
  for reals
me: i think they've been saying that for years
much like how you've been saying that for years
Marty: haha well this weekend I applied for that ___ job
 me: GOOD
12:17 PM Marty: Well, I pitched them on letting me do it from home. 0.007% chance it'll happen
  ANYWAYS
I was updating my resume and realized I was actually ashamed of saying I was still editorial director for ___
Not in the content, but in the way it looks and how its gone downhill
 me: yep
Marty: So I figured if I'm not proud of it anymore, what's the point?
me: i've felt that way for a long time now
12:18 PM Marty: I think I've just been secretly hoping it gets better. But now I feel like if anyone actually looked into it, being associated with ___ now would be bad
me: yes. i feel as thought it's a liability
12:19 PM Marty: So will you be following suit?
 me: of course
i haven't done anything since november
i quietly jumped ship a long time ago
the check in the mail was the lynchpin in the plan
Marty: Hmm. Well I don't want this to look like a coup
12:20 PM Speaking of which, did you get a new cheque?
me: yes, and it actually cleared
  huzzah
 Marty: wow
 me: yeah!
 Marty: Only 5 months later!
  So yeah..timing...
me: i honestly don't care that much
12:21 PM Marty: I'm swaying toward just leaving without explination. So I don't want to make it look like this was planned
  Even though it really wasn't
just both of us want out at the same time
me: i mean, i'll back you if you want me to wait on something, but i'm not planning on doing any more writing for them
12:22 PM Marty: I think that's what I meant. I'd prefer to put in my letter, and then have you follow up a small while later
 me: sure
Marty: I'm worried too soon will make it look like we're trying to make a statement - at which point we might both get phone calls from _______ saying "what do you want me to do"
 me: hmm
12:23 PM again, not giving much of a damn
still, i'll do what you want
  you big baby
Marty: No no. hah. let me explain better
 me: no i get it
  it's cool
12:24 PM Marty: I just don't want _______ thinking we're quitting out of protest, and therefore trying to lie us back in
I just want it to appear how it is - like we're leaving...there's really nothing short of paying us that would change it
 me: yes, that's exactly it
12:25 PM and i can't be placated anymore
 Marty: right
me: so, how's that Wii treating you?
 Marty: still haven't played it
12:26 PM blew my budget on games I can't play
me: i don't know why, but i am completely fascinated by the fact that you bought that thing just before it's death rattle
  *its
  what games?
Marty: haha. Well i always knew it would be good for playing with MJ
12:27 PM Rayman Raving Rabbids (need a nunchuk), Price is Right (HORRIBLE), Sonic 2 (one player) and Street Fighter II (need a classic controller)
me: oh i thought those were all just examples
  hmm
  go get yourself a nunchuck
12:28 PM Marty: Oh we will. Just gotta go easy on the entertainment expenses
 me: sure
12:31 PM Marty: I'll CC you on my resignation letter
  I'm aiming for today
 me: DO IT
12:32 PM blaze that trail
 Marty: hah
12:33 PM me: even though this, effectively, makes me less of a games writer now that the work at ___ has dried up
12:34 PM wah waaaaah
Marty: You're still in the game!
Did you apply for the ___ job? You need too
12:35 PM You have a great chance and it would be awesome if you got it
me: not yet, i've been dragging my feet a bit
that job would come with a whole lot of reservation
not that i don't want it, but there's been an awful lot of downsizing lately
12:36 PM Marty: Mmm yes
  This is true

10 minutes
12:47 PM Marty: luuuunch
 me: enjoy

24 minutes
1:12 PM Matthew: mmmback
1:14 PM me: what was for lunch today?
1:15 PM Marty: Sandwich - chedder and salami
  a side of water
1:16 PM me: That sounds like a mighty meal
apparently, the metroid prime trilogy for the wii demands a stupidly high price on ebay
do don't go looking for it
 Marty: what are we talking
  why not?
1:17 PM me: just in case you were thinking about buying 7 or 8 year old FPSs
you'll be shelling out more than you wanted to
1:19 PM Marty: Oddly enough, I wasn't. I do appreciate the warning, though
 me: sure thing
i just read something mentioning it today and thought i would take a look
i somehow remember that it was out of print, but didn't think it doubled in price
  hurm
1:21 PM Marty: I'm sure you can find it for reasonable prices elsewhere. Ebay is very much all over the map
1:22 PM me: sometime's i'm not sure
  dammit
  *sometimes
prices tend to be somewhat consistent depending on what i'm looking for
1:23 PM Marty: What about craigs list? Have you tried that?
1:24 PM me: you know, i can never remember to look on craigs list for stuff
and when i do, i get disappointed
1:27 PM Marty: No wang shots?
1:28 PM me: not yet, but i just started looking
1:29 PM Marty: Type in wang
  it helps
 me: noted

16 minutes
1:45 PM me: time to go to a meeting where people yell at me
  details to follow
1:46 PM Marty: Huzzah! Have fun
